Senior Director of Software Engineering will provide visionary leadership for Skillfi’s engineering organization, driving the strategy, architecture, and delivery of high‑impact software solutions. This executive role partners closely with product, operations, and executive leadership to ensure technology excellence, operational efficiency, and alignment with business objectives. The successful candidate will lead a dynamic team of 25+ engineers, managers, and senior technical leaders while overseeing a $5M+ combined FTE and contractor budget.

Key Responsibilities

• Define and execute the technology roadmap, ensuring alignment with Skillfi’s strategic goals and market demands.
• Lead, mentor, and develop a high‑performing engineering organization of 25+ staff, including Engineering Managers and senior technical leaders.
• Oversee the design, development, architecture, and delivery of production‑grade software, maintaining rigorous quality and security standards.
• Manage a combined full‑time employee and contractor budget exceeding $5 million, optimizing resource allocation and cost efficiency.
• Establish engineering best practices, governance, and continuous improvement processes across the organization.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional partners—Product, Sales, Customer Success, and Finance—to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
• Represent the engineering function in executive leadership meetings, providing insights on technology trends, risks, and opportunities.

Requirements

• 20+ years of progressive software engineering experience covering design, development, architecture, and delivery of production systems.
• 14+ years of proven engineering leadership experience, including managing, mentoring, and developing high‑performing teams.
• Demonstrated success leading an engineering organization of 25+ employees, with direct oversight of Engineering Managers and senior technical staff.
• Experience managing a combined FTE and contractor budget of $5 million or more, with a track record of fiscal responsibility.
• Deep expertise in modern software development methodologies, cloud platforms, microservices architecture, and DevOps practices.
• Exceptional communication, strategic thinking, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence at the executive level.
