How a laid-off project manager became an AI program manager in 10 weeks.
After 14 years at one company, a restructure ended the role, and employers said the experience wasn't current. Skillfi added the AI, agile and governance skills hiring managers now ask for and repositioned 14 years of rollouts as exactly what AI programs need. It's how our Career Accelerator works: a clear target, real proof, offers on the table.
Fourteen years of experience, and suddenly "not current".
Our client had spent 14 years delivering network and IT projects at a telecom company, leading large teams and multi-million dollar budgets. Then a restructure removed the whole project office.
The job market had moved on. Most project roles now asked for AI experience, agile delivery and knowledge of AI risk and governance. The resume talked about waterfall plans and telecom networks, so applicant tracking systems filtered it out. 45 applications led to two interviews, and both ended with feedback that the experience wasn't current enough.
I'd delivered projects for fourteen years, and overnight it felt like none of it counted anymore.
